Beautiful Raw is an animated documentary film, which depicts a child's fragmented life in the foster care system.
The film follows two sisters on their individual journeys through the foster care system by revealing audio excerpts from conversations amongst them and their foster parents, siblings, and caseworkers. The excerpts are disjointed, much like the lives themselves, but eventually come together to tell a complete story of perseverance and survival.
The film juxtaposes textural paintings and drawings with impactful verbal stories from foster youth, thus telling a story on two different levels. It is the power of the human voice that connects the audience to the children's unfiltered emotions and the dynamic imagery which summarize years of struggles and triumphs at a single glance.
